Shoe Gazing

Shoe Gazing
(A First Chakra Poem)

Extreme ectomorph20140529_141212-2
I pray like a mantis
Spine and ribs through thin skin
clipped-wing shoulder blades
poking beneath a black
t-shirt from some long forgotten
band.

It’s a long way down
to my feet, I lean
into the wind when I walk

and see the wet concrete
beneath, no reflection
in the brewing storm

I can feel the splashes
with each step, hear the
echo shaking down through
the streets, through the rubble
of past quakes, past generations
buried with frozen faces,
through the fault lines, down
deep, deeper still through
crust, magma, that molten metal
core.

I’m solid on the surface
of the earth, looking down
at my feet, my heart
hunched towards the ground,
melting.
